Wedding Photography in the Whitby area... this time at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Lealholm and a private garden in Castleton

The hamlet of Lealholm is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The etymology of the Lealholm name is uncertain but "leal" was the word for a willow twig or withy in the Old English language and “holm” was a settlement, so the village probably started life as a settlement by or near the willow trees. At the time of the Domesday survey, the site of the current village was heavily wooded, but by 1274 there were five charcoal-hungry iron smelting furnaces operating at the manor. The valley floor was cleared quickly of trees enabling drainage, cultivation and settlement of the land. The village became an important crossing point of the River Esk, and has a history possibly dating a thousand years. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart church in Lealholm is a wonderfully light and airy place with a small cosy feel. The Esk Valley is a beautiful part of the world and most wedding venues have wooded backdrops and stunning views. I grew up in the Whitby area and welcome any opportunity to get back there. It’s a very special place with many venues that can help create wonderful wedding photography.

Paul and Jo's Castleton wedding was a great example of how good what a marquee wedding can be and I think the photography shows this off really well (but then I would say that!) They knew the caterers from the off so that was great and their next door neighbours allowed them to use a field with an amazing view. Add in a few bales of straw for seats and, of course, home made bunting and bingo - a lovely wedding in North Yorkshire!
